Pokači

Pokač is a traditional carnival character, which announces the beginning of the carnival time among the first carnival characters. Traditionally, already in the night immediately after the candlemas, the boys and men are turning into heavy beats, which were carefully cemented from the cannabis ropes and raffia during the pre-departure period. With the loud whimpering whips that split into the winter night, they announce the time of carnival. Pokači join the carnival together with the appearance of other carnival characters. Their visit brings happiness and prosperity, and according to the tradition they chase away dark forces and evil spirits.
