DAY OF KURENT AND KORENT GROUPS.
Over 600 Kurents from 30 societies flooded the town’s streets.

With the obligatory support of whip-crackers, who announced Kurents’ arrival with their whip cracking, the darkness, winter and everything bad were chased away by several hundred Kurents coming from some 30 societies, which have also been involved in organizing the 60th Kurentovanje. The visitors reveled with the feathery and horned Kurents, and with an occasional furry one. Kurentovanje is a living heritage, which is reflected in it becoming a more open space, with married men, children and even women joining the young men.

The bells chimed through Ptuj streets well into the night, and Kurents once again fulfilled their mission flawlessly – they chased away everything bad, and brought a lot of joy and happiness, also to girls who used the opportunity to give a handkerchief to their sweetheart.

The town on Drava is all set for the finale of the 60th Kurentovanje; in the coming days, the European Carnival Capital will welcome you at the Parade of Darkness on Friday, the Carnival Promenade on Saturday, and the International Carnival Parade on Sunday, when over 850 Kurents and almost 2500 carnival characters in total are expected to partake in the festivities.

As the school holidays start in the Štajerska region, Ptuj will host the 10th traditional Children’s Parade on Monday, while Kurents and their friends will bid their loud farewell to the town’s streets and squares on Shrove Tuesday, which will end with the burial of the Carnival.

The 60th Kurentovanje will feature over 70 different events in 11 days. You can read more about all the events and highlights of Ptuj’s fifth season of the year in the festival brochure (here)
